Community Speed-watch

Alert message sent 12/10/2018 16:22:00

Information sent on behalf of Lincolnshire Police

Good Afternoon. I am acutely aware of your community concerns about the speed of vehicles using the main B1200 coming both into and going out of the village. I can assure you that these concerns have not gone unnoticed and work is already taking place in an effort to address this and slow vehicles down.

Whilst I am able to work with other agencies to look at ways of reducing speed, I would like to invite you as a community to help me reduce it too. You may or may not be aware that Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership have recently launched their Community Speedwatch initiative across the county.

The aims of the scheme are to allow trained volunteers to address speed concerns in their own communities.

This is achieved by:

1. Undertaking high-visibility roadside checks to educate speeding drivers with a view to improving driver behaviour.

2. Reporting to the police the details of speeding vehicles in specific areas where speed is of concern. These speed monitoring reports enable the police to:

• Send advisory letters to the registered owners confirming to them the speed at which their vehicle was travelling and that the speed was in excess of the speed limit.
• Use the data gathered to inform the police and others on the allocation of resources and general road safety issues.

Speedwatch is not about enforcement. It's about raising awareness of speed within communities, educating drivers and getting vehicles to slow down which ultimately makes the roads in and around your community safer.

I have spoken to a few members of your community already about this scheme and I have organised an informal get together at Grimoldby Village Hall at 2.30pm on Wednesday 17th October. This gathering isn't about you telling me about the problems or other things that are or concern to you, it is about me offering you an opportunity to come and hear a little bit more about the scheme and to see if you as a community, with my support and help, can make the roads that concern you safer for you and the children that live here.

I hope to meet a few of you on Wednesday and if I can be of any further assistance in the meantime please get in touch using the email listed on this message.

Thank you.

Rich.
