Appeal following moped thefts and dangerous driving in North Hykeham and Lincoln |
||
|
We are investigating a series of incidents involving mopeds in the North Hykeham and Lincoln areas. We have received reports of mopeds being stolen and then ridden dangerously through parts of Lincoln, causing concern among local communities and posing a risk to pedestrians and other road users. Following these reports, a 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted theft of a motor vehicle. Enquiries are ongoing and he remains in police custody. We would like to remind moped owners on how to reduce the risk of theft. This includes using approved locks, and keeping the moped in a secure garage or under well-lit CCTV, and reporting any suspicious behaviour promptly. You can find out more on our website: https://www.lincs.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/keeping-vehicles-safe/theft-motorcycles-scooters/ We are aware that in previous incidents that members of the public have tried to pull the riders off the mopeds. We strongly advise that the public remain cautious and prioritise their own safety. We would strongly urge people not to attempt to intervene or try to stop those involved, as this could place you in danger and potentially lead to serious injury. Anyone who has information that could assist our enquiries, or who witnessed these incidents, is asked to contact us. You can report information by calling 101 quoting incident 573 of 29 April, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online. If a crime is taking place, always call 999. | ||
