I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Drugs and related issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Officers in Skegness have today, Tuesday 2 June, secured a closure order on a flat known to be associated with persistent drug misuse and anti-social behaviour (ASB).
We had received multiple reports and concerns from local residents regarding Flat 2, 72 South Parade, which enabled us to focus our resources and gather sufficient evidence to secure a closure order for the property. The reports detailed ongoing anti-social behaviour, including drug use and dealing, loud music at unsociable hours, and incidents of shouting and fighting.
Community Beat Manager, PC Sarah Garbutt said: "I’d like to reassure residents that we take all reports of anti-social behaviour extremely seriously. The key message is to report all concerns with as much evidence as possible. The matters raised by the community have been instrumental in allowing us to take decisive action, and the closure order is a clear demonstration of our commitment to keeping the area safe.
"We understand the impact that persistent issues such as disorder, and suspected drug activity have on people’s quality of life, and we remain determined to address these problems robustly. We will continue to work closely with partner agencies, monitor the situation, and take further enforcement action where necessary.
"I would like to thank residents for their continued support and for reporting concerns - this information is vital in helping us build the evidence needed to act. Please remain vigilant and continue to report any issues so we can ensure this area remains a safe and peaceful place to live."
We have also served four Section 8 notices under the Misuse of Drugs Act on four properties across Skegness. The purpose of these formal warnings is to notify the occupier that we are aware that drug dealing and use is potentially taking place at their premises and that they have a legal responsibility to stop it. We will monitor each property closely and will act robustly to progress prosecution, closure orders or other powers in order to improve safety and tackle ASB within the community.
