I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Drugs and related issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Three people have been arrested following a proactive response by officers in Lincoln city centre after suspected drug dealing was spotted on CCTV.
Officers from the City Centre Team, PC Horgan and PC Chapman, were on patrol on Thursday morning (16 July) when they were alerted by CCTV operators to suspected drug dealing on the High Street near the Stonebow.
As officers arrived, the suspected dealer attempted to flee the scene on a bicycle while carrying drugs. PC Horgan immediately gave chase and, with assistance from CCTV successfully detained the man and recovered the suspected drugs.
The 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.
While officers were securing the suspect in a police vehicle, two further individuals allegedly attempted to remove the recovered drugs from the van.
PC Horgan then pursued and detained a woman found in possession of the suspected drugs. CCTV operators tracked a second individual believed to have been involved in taking the drugs, who was also located and arrested.
The 50-year-old woman and the 42-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
Further searches carried out under warrant powers led officers to recover what is believed to be hundreds of pounds worth of stolen chocolate bars, along with a large machete.
All three have since been released on bail whilst investigations continue.
Sergeant Elkins from the Lincoln Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This incident demonstrates the value of partnership working between our officers and CCTV operators, as well as the determination and professionalism of the officers involved.
“Thanks to the quick response of PC Horgan and PC Chapman, drugs were recovered, three people were arrested, and further items of concern were taken out of circulation.
“We remain committed to tackling drug-related activity and keeping Lincoln city centre a safe place for everyone who lives, works and visits here.”
