Police seize illegal e-bikes |

|
Good afternoon residents of Spalding Town,
We are pleased to report that the team have been busy on our daily patrols, Neighbourhood Teams have had additional training to deal with the prosecution of E-bikes/E-scooters.
The law is quite clear, e-scooters are illegal in any public place. E-bikes are an electrically assisted pedal cycle. However, if you pull the throttle of the bike and it goes, it is not assisted, it is a motor vehicle. This is the easiest way officers assess if these are illegal and require insurance and a driving licence (neither of which can be obtained).
We have seized another motor vehicle (illegal e-bike) today, we won't release this back to the owner as it is impossible to insure. The rider will appear at court.
All the in detail rules are below: Riding an electric bike: the rules - GOV.UK
If you are in doubt, come to the police station in Spalding and ask for a member of the Neighbourhood Policing Team to inspect your bike.
